Jewish Music Playlists on YouTube

At a workshop about expanding medieval studies to be more inclusive, a professor said something that got me thinking.

Remember how I had been trying to create an “archive” of material from the contemporary frum communities? No? Well, it was a short-lived effort, so don’t feel bad or think your memory is going…

Anyway, at this workshop, the professor talked about studying material that wasn’t considered worth looking at before, and how the first step in that niche field is gathering material, editing and translating texts to make them accessible for further study – before any extensive scholarship can be done on them, the texts need to be gathered, curated, etc.

And that made me think about what I had been trying to do – I am trying to enable scholarship on this Jewish material, but I had been trying to do the scholarship at the same time! So now I’m just gathering and collecting what’s already out there.

I’m curating playlists of Jewish music – beginning with MBD and Avraham Fried. The only playlists that exist contain mostly the new music and not the old, so I’m rectifying that.

If you have any favorite MBD / Avraham Fried links, let me know in the comments and I’ll add them. And if you have suggestions for other playlists, let me know. I’ll work on others like D’veykus, Yeedle, Shloime Daskal, Miami Boys Choir, etc. Let me know if there’s anything I miss as I work on it all :)<
