Love for a Dog Named Buttons

Susie had a little dog.
Susie had a cute little dog.
Susie had a cute little dog named Buttons.

Buttons loved his human girl.
Buttons loved his big human girl.
Buttons loved his big human girl named Susie.

Susie gave her Buttons treats.
Susie gave her cute Buttons treats.
Susie gave her cute Buttons treats made of chocolate.

Buttons ate Susie’s treats.
Buttons ate Susie’s chocolate treats.
Buttons ate Susie’s chocolate treats and he died.

Susie cried for her little dog.
Susie cried for her cute little dog.
Susie cried for her cute little dog named Buttons.

“Buttons, I love you, my little dog.
Buttons, you left me, my cute little dog.
Buttons, you hurt me, my cute little dog, when you left me.”

“Susie, I love you, my human girl.
Susie, you hurt me, my big human girl.
Susie, I left you ‘cause you gave me treats made of chocolate.

Buttons is just a little dog.
Buttons is just a cute little dog.
Buttons is just a cute little dog, can’t eat chocolate.”

“But Susie loves you, my little dog.
Susie loves you, my cute little dog.
Susie gave you love for a dog named Buttons.”

“Buttons loves his human girl.
Buttons loves his big human girl.
But Susie gave love for a Susie, not for a Buttons.”

Notes: I’ve been told by a friend that this poem is too heavy-handed. I’ve revised since then, though it still remains heavy-handed… Maybe I’ll go back sometime and revise it again. But for now, I’m sharing as is.
